British Values at Wivelsfield Primary School

At Wivelsfield Primary School, we actively promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths, beliefs and backgrounds. These values are woven through our curriculum and wider school life so that children learn how to contribute positively to their community and to modern Britain.

Children are introduced to British Values through whole‑school assemblies, where themes such as fairness, responsibility, respect and diversity are explored in age‑appropriate ways. These ideas are then developed further in classrooms through discussion, debate, enquiry and everyday teaching.

Across the school, pupils learn to:

  • take part in democratic processes, such as voting and sharing their views
  • understand why rules keep us safe and how laws help communities
  • make informed choices and express their opinions respectfully
  • value differences and show kindness, empathy and respect towards others

By embedding these values throughout our curriculum and daily routines, we help our children grow into thoughtful, responsible and respectful citizens who are ready to play an active role in society.
