Term 3 Topic

In Geography, we’ll be exploring the question ‘Why are rainforests important to us?’ We will learn to:

  • Describe a biome and give an example.
  • State the location and some key features of the Amazon rainforest.
  • Name and describe the four layers of tropical rainforests.
  • Understand that trees and plants adapt to living in the rainforest and give an example.
  • Define the word indigenous and give an example of how indigenous peoples use the Amazon’s resources.
  • Name one way in which the Amazon is changing.
  • Articulate why the Amazon rainforest is important.
  • Give an example of how humans are having a negative impact on the Amazon and an action that can be taken to help.
  • Use a variety of data collection methods with support.
  • Summarise how the local woodland is used and suggest changes to improve the area.

We also have some fun filled activities planned to enrich the children’s geography learning.

  •          Fieldwork in a local woodland.

Science

Our topic is 'Sound'

We will learn  to-

  • Identify how sounds are made, associating some of them with something vibrating.
  • Recognise that vibrations from sounds travel through a medium to the ear.
  • Find patterns between the pitch of a sound and features of the object that produced it.
  • Find patterns between the volume of a sound and the strength of the vibrations that produced it.
  • Recognise that sounds get fainter as the distance from the sound source increases.

Times tables

The Year 4 Multiplication check will take place in the Summer term.

Below is an overview of when we will be learning each times table.

Please support your child at home with regular practice. Ideally this would be 5 minutes each day.

Regular practice can be completed on Times Table Rockstars (TTRS), listening to Times Table songs and regular recall.

We would recommend to check your child's heat map on TTRS so you can support them with their recall on specific tables.

PE

Thursday -  Miss Gough - Netball

Friday - Mrs Diack - Gymnastics

Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in a suitable PE kit on Fridays. The children will be outside in all weathers. Long hair must be tied up and earrings to be taped or removed, along with removing any jewellery or watches. If earrings are removed, please ensure that your child has a small pot or safe place to keep them in.
